Staff highly commended in Stafford Community Award
Staff from McDonalds restaurant on the Eccleshall Road in Stafford have been highly commended in the Stafford Borough Council Community Awards 2018.
The award scheme is run by Stafford Borough Council and is open to any individual and organisation able to demonstrate that they have improved community wellbeing within the last 12 months.
Nominated by Councillor Jonathan Price and Councillor Bryan Cross, employees gave up their spare time to go and litter pick in the local area. As part of their ‘Love where you live’ project that McDonalds hold every year, staff decided to litter pick the Eccleshall Road Cemetery to show their commitment to their community. They have also helped in other projects such as the painting of Greyfriars subway, anti-litter campaigns and other litter picks.
Bella Cooper, Restaurant Community Lead at McDonalds, Stafford said "We like to get involved with our community and thought that it would be nice to help tidy the cemetery so that for the people that visit, it's clean, tidy and maintained. It is a place of remembrance and there are lots of special people here."
Stafford Borough Council Bereavement Services and volunteer group Friends of Stafford Cemeteries, who raise awareness of the cemetery as a place of remembrance, spirituality, history and nature also praised the McDonald's staff who took part in the litter pick and hope to continue the good work of looking after the cemetery with them again in 2019.
